C3 Esports has three competitive divisions, each targeting a different level of Rocket League experience. Choosing the right division helps you have a competitive, enjoyable season — both for you and for the teams you play against.

The three divisions

Premier

Top tier. Premier is for teams with experienced Rocket League players who have competed in organized leagues before. Teams in Premier are typically composed of players ranked Diamond III through Grand Champion in Rocket League’s ranked modes. Premier matches are highly competitive and often closely contested. If your team has players who:
  • Have competed in RLCS, Collegiate Rocket League (CRL), or another organized collegiate/amateur league
  • Are consistently ranked at Diamond III or above in standard 3v3
  • Have significant tournament experience
…then Premier may be the right fit.

Challengers

Mid tier. Challengers is the middle ground — for teams who have some experience with organized play or solid in-game mechanics, but are not yet at the top competitive level. Players in Challengers are typically ranked in the Gold through Diamond range. This is often the best starting point for teams with mixed experience levels. If your team has players who:
  • Play ranked 3v3 regularly but have not competed in a formal league before
  • Are comfortable with core mechanics (fast aerials, basic rotation, boost management)
  • Want a competitive experience without the extreme pressure of Premier
…then Challengers is likely your division.

Contenders

Entry level. Contenders is for teams brand new to organized Rocket League, whether the players are newer to the game or simply have never competed in a league format before. The skill range is wide — some Contenders teams have players in Bronze, others in Platinum. The shared factor is the entry-level competitive experience. If your team has players who:
  • Are new to Rocket League or still learning fundamentals
  • Have never played in a competitive league format
  • Want to experience organized play in a lower-pressure environment
…then Contenders is the right starting point.

How to choose your division

When you register for a season, you select your division. There is no automated placement — it is self-selected and subject to staff review.
Be honest about your skill level. Teams that dominate Contenders without earning their place there are reviewed by staff and may be moved to a higher division. Competing in a division below your skill level makes the league less fun for everyone.
Questions to ask yourself before selecting:
  1. What is the highest rank your top 3 players hold in standard 3v3?
  2. Has anyone on your team competed in CRL, an NACE affiliate league, or another organized Rocket League league?
  3. Is your team’s goal to win as much as possible, or to learn and improve in a competitive setting?
If you are unsure, Challengers is usually the safe default for teams with some experience. You can always move up next season based on your results.

Staff-initiated division adjustments

In rare cases, staff may move a team to a different division:
  • Before the season starts: If a team’s self-selected division is clearly mismatched with their player ranks or history, staff may contact the manager and suggest or require a different division.
  • After the season ends: Division placements in the next season may be informed by this season’s results — strong performance in Challengers might prompt a recommendation to try Premier.
There is currently no formal promotion/relegation system in C3 Esports. Teams choose their division anew each season registration. Staff reserve the right to intervene in obvious cases of division sandbagging.

Standings are division-specific

Teams only compete against other teams in the same division. A Premier team’s results have no direct effect on Challengers standings, and vice versa. Each division has its own full standings table and playoff bracket.
